There are four main canals active in Upstate NY (Erie, Oswego, Champlain, and Cayuga–Seneca). There are also many now defunct and or abandoned canals in Upstate New York as well such as the Black River, Chenango, Genesee Valley Canals as well as others. Many of these are converted into hiking or biking paths. This is a site about these Upstate New York treasures.
Our first site was in 2015. However, the inspiration came in Sept. 2005 while traveling from Buffalo to Syracuse on the backroads of Rt 31. Founder Jason Petrone took eight hours to get from Buffalo to Newark NY taking many side trips, and thus began a love for the Erie Canal that could not be extinguished!
